<![CDATA[Not as green as you think]]>Sun, 29 Oct 2023 07:45:23 GMThttp://panamaphotoexplorations.com/blog/not-as-green-as-you-think
Not as green as you think
Panama's government has just passed a law that allows the operation of mines in large parts of Panama. In the mines they will dig for mainly copper, and in addition gold and silver. (See map)
The red fields are mines that are already in operation.
The orange fields are areas where mines can potentially be opened.
As you can see, the orange fields touch large parts of Panama, which include rainforests, cloudforests, mountains, rivers, and water. People also live in these areas.
A side effect of copper mines is also toxic waste substances that can poison drinking water and make the population sick. In addition, the mines are open pits which in reality completely destroy the landscape. Large areas could potentially become uninhabitable as a result. It will of course be an advantage for those who want mining. Then the mining companies can go ahead and destroy large parts of Panama without obstructions.

Why do I care? I have been exploring Panama for almost 20 years, and have also lived there for several years. Panama has a unique nature.

Why should you care? The "green" shift, or the green deal, is the driving factor. More electric cars, electrification projects, wind turbines etc. require huge amounts of copper.

If you cheered for the "green" shift, you should think again.

Panamanians have woken up and currently there are large demonstrations across Panama against the law.
The "green" shift is not green. It destroys Panama and other countries. The wind turbines around the world are destroying the landscapes and nature, making us poorer, and the money flows from you and me flow into large companies that laugh all the way to the bank.
Green fascism is on the rise.
